Tonight's Episode is a particularly special one. My dear friends, Jim and Rene, with Tripawds join us to talk about adopting two and three legged canines and critters. We go way back to before the walk and share the same scar from losing a dog to bone cancer. Theirs was Jerry, a handsome shepherd mix who like mine, Malcolm, had a coolness about him and I had the great fortune to meet in 2008.
When Sheila, our producer extraordinnaire, put a couple of tripod Pyrenees up on the blog we came up with the idea for a show on how special needs dogs find good homes. Well, the dynamic husband and wife duo at Tripawds are doing just that.
Loved this podcast, thank you! Our tripawd Pyr Guiness was supposed to be a foster dog but he wasn't here for 24 hours and we knew he wouldn't be leaving. He came from a KY shelter with a shattered elbow, most likely hit by a car at some point, and the leg was too damaged to be saved. But other than not being able to go for long walks (and he doesn't want to, he's afraid of being by the road) it doesn't slow him down at all. He's still a guardian dog at heart and can take off across the back yard barking at the deer with the rest of the pack! Thank you all for letting people know that these pups who are missing their "spare" aren't missing anything in their hearts! :)

@bethandbob drop by the Tripawds blogs and forums sometime to share Guiness' story.
ReplyDeleteMany thanks to the Big Dog for helping us spread the word that dogs are born with three legs and a spare!
