Joey Joe Joe, Jr. Shabadoo

I've seen like two episodes of The Simpsons in my life.  One of them had a cameo appearance from Michelle Pfeiffer as a new employee at the nuclear plant.  Homer takes a liking to her and solicits the advice of Moe, the town barkeep but he tries to do so anonymously.  The conversation goes something like this:

Homer: "Moe, I've got this married friend who's attracted to a female co-worker."

Moe:  "Yeah, what's his name?"

Homer: "Umm... Joey... Joe Joe, Junior Shabadoo?"

Moe:  "That's the worst name I've ever heard"

And then some guy at the end of the bar gets up and runs out the door weeping.

Silly surely and it's been over a decade, probably more since I saw that episode but it stuck with me for some odd reason and perhaps that's what I should name the new puppy.  That is unless you can come up with a better suggestion...

I've decided not to rush the process as I want to truly study his personality before I commit but it would help if I had a broader selection of possibilities and that's where you come in.

If you don't want his name to be Joey Joe Joe, Jr. Shabadoo, post your suggestion here & I'll start a list.  This isn't a contest as his name will become apparent in time.  But I assure you it AIN'T FRANK.

  1. I don't know why but the first name that comes to mind is Charlie. Another would be Oliver or Tyler.

  2. You've had Malcolm and Murphy, how about another strong Irish name like Seamus?! My boy's name is Guinness but my friend Tim has a golden named Seamus and he's a great dog! Then again all dogs are great! Hudson and Seamus. Has a nice ring to it! God Bless You Hudson, Luke and Fuzzy Puppy! I'm so happy for all of you!

  3. Name him Muddy. A combination of Murphy and Buddy. Plus the brown on his head makes him look like he's been playing in the mud.

  6. His name will be perfect (pyrfect?) for him as you are letting him tell you what it should be. Maybe Joey Joe Joe maybe not?? Let us know what he has decided for you to call him!

  9. My Pyrs are named Crush and Squishy, so that gives you an idea of the types of names I favor. If he's fast, Dart or Dash. If he's a big eater, Hoover. If he's big and brawny, Dozer or Diesel. Depending on the personality that emerges, I also like to use favorite authors, like Whitman, Thoreau, etc.

  10. Looking at that face (what a face!!!!!), I really think Joey is excellent. It is a name with two syllables (which is good for names for dogs), and it is totally in keeping with his little personality that comes out in the photo. Whatever you call him, I know you will have a happy life together. "Joey Joe Joe Robinson." Has a nice ring to it. I imagine the you will be able to write about him.

  16. I vote for the name "Madison.

In reference to white squirrels, I read somewhere that white squirrels were introduced to the southern region by a man who lived in Madison, NC. A link to your "City of White Squirrels" blog...and....

Madison means "son of a mighty warrior." You are a mighty warrior against cancer in dogs...and you've fought valiantly for the cause. And lastly.....

You have one son named "Hudson"...now you can have "Madison", as well...Two "sons" of a mighty warrior!

    Just a thought!

  17. That is a strong boy who needs a strong name. Our Charlie's two best friends are named Murphy and Frank. Since both of those names are out, I like a good strong name like Jack...you can't have a dog answer to a name that no one understands. Whatever you choose will be fine..

  19. I think the puppy looks like a "Gus"... I had a friend who named a cat "Asparagus" and called him "Gus" for short, but "august" would work. "Gus" and "Gussie"...
If you have any interest in SciFi reading.... Check out Jim Butcher's Dresden series. His dog's name is "Mouse"... I think that is cute also, especially for large dogs! That dog has special powers too... But if you are interested in knowing them, read! I won't spoil it for you!
Good luck with the cutie pie!

  33. Well I've always been a little odd at naming my animals. I have to look at them and watch them for a bit. I think of a name say it out loud, look at them, and then go nah you don't look like a "Frank" (just as an example).

When we rescued our Rottie, her name was Juliette. For me I have a limit on 2 syllables for pet names. So Juliette was too big of a mouthful for me. They said I could shorten it to Jewels but that just didn't roll off the tongue right for me. I tried about a dozen names on her before one felt right. Ended up with Kassi which fit her...or me...either way it stuck.

I looked at your picture a bit. I thought since he was a Kentucky dog possibly name him "Tucker". Then I also thought he looked like a Jesse.

Okay that's my 2 cents worth.

  34. What's that song. My ole Kentucky home. I love Kentucky. But seeing as how he came from bowling green. Alabama fits well. Then we have Buzz, or Radar if his eyes or ears are real sharp. There is Cliff if he likes to climb. I know you dont want names like Snuggles so trying to keep it more for a guy. Will think and post more later.

  37. I have always been fond of the name Tobey, but recently began to appreciate the humor and strength in a friend's animal called Max (sometimes called Maximilian, the Maxter or Maximus when he is caught being naughty). Bogart (Bogie) and Barkley (Bark or Lee) are also strong but endearing names. I'm sure you will find the perfect name as soon as "ain't Frank" tells you which one he prefers. Happy hunting. :-)

  38. I think it should be Rocky since the Squirrels were involved.

  39. He looks like he's really going love life and be interested in seeing and trying everything! I like 'BG' for Bowling Green, plus we know how much you and your puppers love your music!

Amanda's idea for Tucker sounds good too (for Kentucky)

Still like Jax too (just because...)

  40. Congrats Luke, he is adorable. I kinda think an "H" name would be pretty cool and would go with Hudson.
    So here goes-
"Henry"- very strong & regal like Henry VIII-
    "Harry"- variant of Henry
    "Henderson"- variant

Also like "Lincoln" in honor of Abe Lincoln and his thoughts on Kentucky being a most important state during the civil war.

  43. I adopted my first Great Pyr in April and deeply adore everything about him. The shelter group was calling him Sonny. Not a bad name but it wasn't really resonating with me. My best friend suggested Abe, short for The Abonimable Snowman. Since the famous Abe in our country's history was also an emancipator, not a bad name either. Still wasn't striking me. So I tossed a "G" on the front and started calling him Gabe. Archangel and protector, the bright and morning star. He wakes me every morning standing next to the bed, chin resting next to my face and flag of a tail waving in happy greeting.

So there you go, three more suggestions.
